The excise tax starts it all!!

On March 3, 1791 the excise act, which was to lead to the famous Whiskey Rebellion in Pennsylvania in 1794, passed Congress over strong southern opposition. The tax was expected to provide the additional revenue needed to cover the cost of the assumption of state debts.
Celebrate the rebellion mounted in our area against this tax at the George Washington Whiskey Rebellion Fest, brought to you by the Community Trust Foundation, Friday June 12 6 to 10 pm at the Allegany Museum, Cumberland.
Tickets to the Fest are available here
