Restored first floor of Allegany Museum to be open to Whiskey Rebellion Fest guests

Guests of the Whiskey Rebellion Fest, sponsored by the Community Trust Foundation, will be offered tastings of whiskey and other spirits, food, and entertainment on two floors of the Allegany Museum for the first time this June 9.

Guests will be the first to experience the vaulted ceilings, original plasterwork detailing, and grand spaces on the newly-restored first floor. Twelve small-batch Maryland and national distillers will provide tastings of whiskey, moonshine, vodka and rum on that floor.

On the second floor, revelers will listen and dance to the Craig Miller Trio in the grand ballroom, and enjoy food from Good Carma catering, and a cash bar. A colonial ‘pub’ where guests can play historic drinking games will be located in the board room.

Actors and re-enactors will provide scenes from colonial and Whiskey Rebellion history over both floors, and can have their photo taken with ‘George Washington’. All guests will receive a goodie bag, which includes a coupon for a Sober Ride home.

Allegany Museum Vice President Vic Rezendes says that the contractors have made excellent progress in restoring the museum’s first floor to its 1932 grandeur. “The bulk of the work will be completed in time to host the whiskey tasting on June 9th in the newly restored space. We will be celebrating a historic event in a historic venue”, said Rezendes. Tickets to the Fest are available at the Book Center, Cumberland, Mains Street Books in Frostburg, on our website and on our Facebook page.
