We are delighted to announce that Charis Winery and Distillery will be providing tastings and sales at the George Washington Whiskey Rebellion Fest 2018, brought to you by the Community Trust Foundation.
In 2013, Charis began wine production and sales. Charis was Allegany County’s first winery, and is located in historic Canal Place, opposite Allegany Museum in downtown Cumberland.
As their wine production grew, they investigated uses for the pomace byproduct [grape skins, pulp and seeds].
They now use the leftover raw material to make pomace brandy. In 2017 they produced two versions of pomace brandy.
‘Lock House 75’ is an oaked (American oak with a #3 char) brandy in the style of cognac, while Rose Brandy is flavored with red rose petals, which produces a floral aroma and flavor.
This year Charis is Ginger Brandy and Peach Brandy to their range.
Make sure to visit their tasting table at the Fest, Friday June 8, 6-10 pm.
